Christopher Powell
Marine Electronics Specialist
Chris is the Marine Instrument Specialist at CCPO. Chris began working at CCPO in Febuary of 2002. Previously, he was employed at UNC Wilmington, where he worked as a Marine Tech for 6 years. His education includes a M.S. in Marine Science and 6 years of “OJT” in the support of various fields in Marine Science At UNCW, Chris was primarily responsible for the operation and maintenance of scientific instrumentation including: ADCPs; CTDs; CTs; a Rosette; Side Scan Sonar; Sub Bottom Profiler; and a number of in-house systems run by Campbell Scientific dataloggers.
At CCPO, Chris’s primary duties are to assist Dr. Ann Gargett in setting up and running cabled oceanographic observatories. Currently Chris is responsible for a 1200kHz BBADCP from RDI, an Acoustic Backscatter System from Aquatec Ltd, a Nortek Vector ADV and 2 Ocean Sensors CTD’s, one with autonomous profiling capability. In addition to these duties, Chris is working on an integrated instrumentation system for Old Dominion University’s R/V Fay Slover.
