Ali is broadly interested in all aspects of climate change, from polar amplification to sea level rise. The atmosphere and ocean are closely interconnected and determining those interconnections are vital to understand the inner-workings of how anthropogenic forcings will continue to affect our world. Currently, she is working on a 20th century regional sea level rise trend map to help quantify sea level rates from the past century. This will help put into context future sea level rise and will improve future estimates as well. Moving forward, Ali plans to continue research on how sea level rise may have influenced extreme coastal events along the Mid-Atlantic shore.
