Praveen Kumar
M.S., Marine Science (Physical Oceanography), Goa University, 2012
B.S., Physics, Goa University, 2010
Praveen Kumar is a Physical Oceanography Ph.D. candidate, researching
Indo-Pacific sea level variability on interannual to decadal time-scales and
its response to 20th century climate variability.
Using a blend of satellite and in-situ data, Praveen has developed a
new multivariate sea level reconstruction framework. Using this technique,
he has reconstructed a new and improved sea level data set for the Indian
Ocean spanning 1900 to 2018.
Praveen's recent research seeks to understand the impact that climate modes
have on the sea level variability of the Indian Ocean. Currently, his
research is focused on quantifying the impact of Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD)
and ENSO on modulating sea level over the Tropical Indian Ocean. The
ultimate goal of his research is to help aid adaptation and mitigation
efforts of sea level rise along the Indian Ocean rim countries.
