The discrete oxygen measurements made during the four SO GLOBEC survey cruises are used to develop distributions for austral fall and winter.  The low oxygen concentrations associated with Upper Circumpolar Deep Water provide an approach for tracing the pathway of this water mass on the west Antarctic Peninsula (WAP) continental shelf.  The oxygen distributions are used to estimate water residence times on the WAP continental shelf.  The discrete measurements are also used to develop an oxygen budget for WAP continental shelf waters, which allows first order estimates of the mixing of Upper Circumpolar Deep Water with the overlying Antarctic Surface Water layer.
