This talk highlights how engaged research by ODU Resilience
Collaborative members provide insight for better understanding the context
of adaptation to flooding and sea level rise in Hampton Roads. Results
from various engaged research projects will be woven into a narrative about
adaptation to flooding and sea level rise in Hampton Roads, and challenges
for moving toward a whole-of-government and whole-of-community approach to
adaptation and building resilience. Drawing from wide-ranging projects such
as a study of Virginia legislators' perceptions of recurrent flooding,
assessment of regional adaptation readiness, analysis of drivers' responses
to nuisance flooding on roads, case studies of stakeholder engagement
efforts, and the Little Creek demonstration project of the Hampton Roads Sea
Level Rise Preparedness and Resilience Intergovernmental Planning Pilot
Project, this talk will conclude with a discussion of opportunities for ODU
and the ODU Resilience Collaborative to support regional adaptation efforts.
