In collaboration with Mr. Jim Dixon (NOAA/NOS), CICPO and CCPO, we have established an office at Nauticus (The National Maritime Center) in downtown Norfolk. ODU/CCPO displays are now being prepared that will show the connection between research and the safe and efficient use of our nations ports and coastal waters.

Dr. Kate Bosley (NOAA/NOS) is a co-PI with Dr. Arnoldo Valle-Levinson (CCPO) and Dr. Kuo Wong (U. Delaware) in an NSF sponsored study on the Chesapeake Bay entrance. This spring current meters and tide gauges are being deployed. NOAA supplied hardware, logistical support and ADCP bottom platforms and gear.

In cooperation with Mr. Steve Cook and the Atlantic Oceanography and Meterology Laboratory in Miami the Institute provides service to volunteer observing ships when the port in the Central Eastern Seaboard.

The Institute in cooperation with Mr. Stephen Gill at NOS is offering a course on 11-15 December 2000 in Norfolk. The purpose of the course is to educate participants in all aspects of operational tides and water levels support relevant to surveying and mapping.
This course is part of a series of courses being offered for hydrographers.

Institute faculty are participating with PMEL and other NOAA laboratories in the large scale effort to rebuild infrastructure in the Honduras region of Central America. The Institute will determine currents in the the Gulf of Fonseca using towed ADCP's and CODAR.
