NASA Image2000 Software
Minimum System Requirements
NASA Image2000 (i2k) is a cross-platform tool for UNIX and Windows machines (Macintosh users, go back to Computer Lab Resources and choose SEE Image). i2k was written in Java v.2 and Java Advanced Imaging (JAI) and is intended to provide advanced scientific image processing capabilities on a standard desktop computer. Minimum system requirements are as follows:

- Windows XP, Windows 98, ME, NT, and 2000
- Solaris and IRIX (not thoroughly tested)
- Hardware Needs
- Memory -- 96 MB
- Processor -- Pentium
- Disk Space -- 2 GB hard disk space for software and data
- Video -- 800 x 600
- Other -- CD drive
i2k Installation
To download the i2k installer, right click on this link and select "Save Target As." Then select the directory in which you want to place the installer. Note that the i2k installer is over 73 MB, and will take approximately 5 minutes to download if you have a FAST Internet connection. [If your usual connection is just a dialup modem, do not attempt to download this software there. Instead, use an Ethernet connection at your school or go to a facility that has high speed Internet connectivity, like some libraries and cybercafes.] Once downloaded, the i2k icon looks like this on your desktop.
Double click on the icon. Then the first installation window will come up as follows:
Click "OK" to proceed. You'll see the following introductory screen.
Click the "Next" button after following the instructions on the subsequent screens, which ask you to comply with licensing and to select a default folder for installation. Choose "Typical" installation and click "Next."
Check the Pre-Installation Summary window and click "Install," or at this point you may go back to a "Previous" window to make changes. When the installation is successful, you will see the following window.
Click "Done." Now take a look at the folder called \Program Files\/NASA Image2000. It will look like this.
To start using i2k click on the Start menu in the bottom left corner of your screen.
You are now ready to follow the instructions given in the Computer Lab Resources.
