Goal for Week 5: Calculating descriptive statistics and fitting simple functions to data

Summary of new tools and commands.

`mean` calculate the mean of a vector or matrix.
`mode` calculate the mode of a vector or matrix.
`var` calculate the variance of a vector or matrix.
`std` calculate the standard deviation of a vector or matrix.
`polyfit` fit values (y) at locations (x) to a polynomial.
`polyval` evaluate a polynomial at locations (x) given a set of coefficients.
`log,exp` natural logarithm and exponential (inverse functions).
`nanmean,nanvar,nanstd` versions of mean, var and std that ignore NaN values.

Tasks for Week 5
	Tasks
1	Use mean(), std() and var() to calculate statistics on data from a file. Plot data with mean plus/minus standard deviation.
2	Read several columns of data, calculate statistics by column. Plot multiple data on a graph with mean and std.
3	Fit polynomials to data.
4	Fit power and exponential functions to data
5	Fit trigonometric functions to data
6	Analyze the quality of the functional fits
